Cartagena (Columbia)

Have you ever called your Retreat location a UNESCO World Heritage Site? Cartagena de Indias, founded about forty years after Christopher Columbus founded the “New World,” is the undisputed gem of the South American Caribbean coast. You’ll find a magical city of romance, legends and superbly preserved beauty lying within an impressive 13 kilometers of centuries-old colonial fortified walls and fortresses. Depending on your dates of travel and the number in your party, you’ll stay in a semi-secret 200-year-old boutique hotel, a luxury private villa or an exclusive colonial mansion, not easily accessed by public guests.

Antigua (Guatemala)

The former capital of the Spanish Empire’s Kingdom of Guatemala is now beautiful Antigua, famous for its well-preserved Spanish Baroque-influenced architecture as well as a number of ruins of colonial churches, a designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and now, your Joy-Driven Retreat venue. A place of rare beauty, major historical significance and vibrant culture, Antigua remains Guatemala's must-visit destination.

But this is just your home base. You’ll also travel by helicopter to visit the deepest lake in Central America, Lake Atitlán and its Mayan villages, and perhaps roast marshmallows at an uncomfortably close live volcano. Of course, they’ll be a few surprises that continue to challenge your Joy-Driven aspirations and create once-in-a-lifetime memories.

Your home will be a quiet, exclusive and very private villa, with daily house service, your private chef and service attendants.

January, February, March, April, November and December are the driest months (and cooler months, ranging from the low to high 20s °C / mid 70s to low 80s °F. Valle de Guadalupe

(20 km north of Ensenada, Mexico)

As we drive along windy back highways and heavily pocked dirt roads – and perhaps few signs to indicate the proximity of our destination, you may wonder, “I’m not so sure about this.” Good. Because that’s part of the exercise and there’s more I can’t tell you.

I’ll tell you this: Here in deep, rural Baja Mexico, just 20 km from Ensenada and half that distance to the deep blue Pacific, you’ll experience, wine tasting, Michelin Star cuisine, ocean, tours, spa, once in a lifetime activities, surprises, and of course FUN! Most importantly, you’ll make an impact, and create the makings of a Joy-Driven Life.

Baja California and the Vallee de Guadaloupe region can be visited for most of the year. From Spring through Fall, you can expect temperatures to range the high teens centigrade/high 60s Fahrenheit, to the low 30s °C/low 80s °F during the Summer months. Panama City, Panama

Visit Panama, and at one time, the second most important city in the Spanish New World. Learn the ways of the indigenous Emberá Tribe, where the only way to visit their communities is on foot or via dugout canoes (you’ll take canoes). You’ll spend time in Casco Viejo (the Old Quarter) of Panama, where the city was rebuilt following the old Spanish city of Panama being burnt to the ground by its governor, to sabotage the attack and looting by British contracted privateer Henry Morgan. Finally, you’ll check off a tour of the Panama Canal. Depending on schedules, you may meet with government officials and local YPO and/or EO members. And of course, there are the activities, experiential learning and exercises that you’ll only find with Joy-Driven Retreats.

The Maasai Mara and Nairobi (Kenya)

The cradle of mankind. The finest wildlife destination in the world. The largest slum in Africa. The capital of Kenya. Out of Africa. Whether you’re meeting with entrepreneurs in the Capital City, visiting tea plantations from the British Empire, sharing your heart with the tribal peoples of the Maasai, or meeting face to face with a lion that wants to eat you, you’ll cross off a bucket list adventure that takes you closer to your beginning than you imagined… in fact, to the beginning of mankind. You may stay in hotels, to lakeside country clubs, or luxury safari tents (to where, at night, you’ll be escorted with rifles so you’re not eaten…). This Retreat promises to leave as large an impact as the one you’ll create on yourself and your mates. This may or may not happen each year, depending on scheduling commitments.
